Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is unhappy that the recent councillors’ appointment has reduced PSM’s representative in the council from three to two. We base this from newspaper reports as there has been no prior consultation on the reduction of the seats now offered to us.
PSM councillors were the only councillors to declare assets in public and who have been bringing a pro-people approach in the council. Meanwhile PSM's State Assemblyman and MP have stood by PR and have not jumped ship or declared themselves independent in the Selangor State Assembly and Parliament unlike several PR representatives. It therefore came to us as a shock that the decision to reduce our council representatives were done unilaterally without any consultation.
If at all PSM Councillors under-perform, then we think that PR should have consulted us; but by reducing the number of PSM councillors, we think it is an act of undermining the work done by PSM and tantamount to bullying as well as tarnishing the good relationship PSM has with the PR.
PSM on its part has written an official letter to the Menteri Besar and are seeking a meeting with the Menteri Besar and with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to seek clarification, register our protest and call upon PR to restore the three councillors' positions currently held by PSM.
