PSM gets nod to use clenched fist symbol

Press Clipping

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (Baru) or PSM has finally received the go-ahead from the Election Commission to use its “clenched fist” symbol.

This will pave the way for party members to campaign using the logo in the next general election.

Chairman Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim said that in previous elections, the party had to use the logos of Opposition parties like the DAP in 1999 and PKR in 2004 and 2008.

The party had submitted an application for the EC’s approval of the logo on Sept 18 last year. It was finally approved on April 20.

Dr Mohd Nasir said that the party, which has some 10,000 members, would also hold its three-day AGM from May 29 to 31.

On Aug 19 last year, the party was finally officially registered as a political party with the Registrar of Societies after a 10-year battle.

It currently has one MP (Dr D. Jeyakumar – Sungai Siput) and one state assemblyman (Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim – Kota Damansara)

On the Penanti by-election on May 31, Dr Mohd Nasir said the party would be joining PKR in its campaign.
